Audi R8 LMX is Not Your Average Coupe

The Audi R8 LMX is a limited edition coupe that has something a little unusual about it. This model has laser-enhanced LED high beam headlights. It's the world's first production car to use these laser high beams.

These laser lights were first introduced in the R18 E-tron Quattro LMP1 racecar, and were then promised to appear in a production model later this year.

This model's lights function the same way as the ones in the race car--when travelling above 37.3 mph, a small laser in each headlight is activated and can light up the road about 1,640 feet in front of the car.

The new lights aren't all the R8 LMX has to offer. It also has a more powerful V10 engine, producing 570hp.

Deliveries of this coupe will start this summer but, since US laws prevent the use of this kind of light on public roads, it's not likely that we'll see this car here. Not yet, anyway.

Although we won't be seeing this car on US lots right now, we still have a whole bunch of new Audis for you to check out at our Merrillville, IN showroom. Here at Team Audi, we are always happy to share specs and answer any questions you may have.
